Yalumba The Menzies Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Full depth in colour with a plum red hue. The bouquet leads with violet and lilac floral notes to the tangy counterpoint of seaspray and pepper. The palate is rich and powerful; red fruits and dark chocolate on a robust tannin framework. The finish is long, complex and well worth contemplating.
Named after the prime terra-rossa-based source vineyard acquired by Yalumba in 1993, this juicy Cabernet Sauvignon with fine grained tannins majors on elegance over extraction. With lively ping-pong tension between its fresh blackcurrant, lifted dried herbs and lick of bitter chocolate, it’s stylish and highly accessible. Aged for 20 months in a combination of French hogsheads, 36% new, and used American, French and Hungarian hogsheads and barriques. Rated 92, Decanter
