A terrific introduction to grower Champagne, Philippe Fontaine Tradition comes from the Côte des Bar in southern Champagne, where Pinot Noir thrives on the region’s limestone and marl soils.
A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier, this is a wonderfully expressive, fruit-driven Champagne with notes of ripe apple, pear and white fruits, complemented by a fine mousse, subtle brioche character and a refreshing mineral finish. Two years of cellar aging adds texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s lively freshness.
Philippe Fontaine is a family-run grower-producer. Unlike the large Champagne houses, Fontaine grows its own grapes and produces its Champagne from estate vineyards, giving the wines a distinctive sense of place.
The Pinot-dominant blend gives the Tradition more body and vinosity than many non-vintage Champagnes, making it equally enjoyable as an aperitif or at the table.
Pair with: oysters, shellfish, smoked salmon, charcuterie, fried chicken, roast chicken and creamy cheeses.
